As a largely self-taught photographer, I feel free to experiment, as I am not weighed down by tradition or obligation to a particular school of photography. When I learned of the rebirth of instant camera technology, I jumped at the chance to experiment with one. In 2018, I purchased a FujiFilm Instax SQ10 camera, a square format hybrid digital camera.
Complete with an LCD on the back to review images, the ability to addd filters or crop before printing, a microSD card slot and the option to print instantly, the SQ10 is like two cameras in one.
Of course, the images, either printed from the camera, or downloaded/printed via traditional means, lack the sophistication and clarity of photographs today. But isn’t that the fun bit? Nostalgia meets up-to-the-minute technology!
Here are the favorites from my first year of experimenting with an instant camera.

and of course, it is good for party portraits too!
